FILTER MEDIA - GLASS PEARLS

(20KG/BAG, 0.6MM - 0.8MM)

Manufactured from 100% virgin glass, Glass Pearls are a new generation of filter media, capable of providing water of superior clarity and requiring less water for backwashing. Not only that, they are safe to handle and safe to service. Glass Pearls are easy to install and enables a rapid start up of the media filter.

Unlike crushed glass, Glass Pearls are spherical and do not have sharp edges, making them really safe to use. And if there’s ever a failure of the filter’s laterals and glass Pearls flow into the swimming pool, they pose no risk of injury to swimmers. Its high purity means very little backwashing is required to cleanse the filter media, prior to commissioning the filter. Waterco Glass Pearls have been evaluated by TUV SUD PSB and are suitable for both domestic and commercial swimming pools, aquaculture, water treatment and industrial applications.

SUPER FINE FILTRATION WITH GLASS PEARLS
They offer much finer filtration than other alternatives and are therefore capable of providing outstanding water purity and clarity (filtration below 3 microns). They also require 20 per cent less water for backwashing compared to sand.

ULTIMATE WATER PURITY
Whereas other filter media may contain different contaminants, Glass Pearls are chemically inert for the ultimate water purity. In fact, they have been independently lab tested for leaching contaminants and found to be well within Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. At only 0.6mm by 0.8mm in size, the narrow particle size of the Glass Pearls enables in-depth superior filtration. The spherical shape also results in low friction levels, also reducing the need to backwash and saving pool owners both time and precious water.

ULTIMATE SAFE
Glass Pearls are safe to handle & safe to service in comparison to other glass media options as crushed glass. Glass Pearls are spherical and do not have sharp edges, making them really safe to use. And if there’s ever a failure, of the filter’s laterals and Glass Pearls flow into the swimming pool, they pose no risk of injury to swimmers.

ULTIMATE TIME SAVING
Glass Pearls are also easy to install, enabling a rapid start up of the media filter. Plus its high purity means very little backwashing is required to cleanse the filter media prior to commissioning the filter.

SUPERIOR PURITY

Whereas other filter media may contain a variety of contaminants, the Glass Pearls are chemically inert for superior purity. In fact, Glass Pearls have been independently lab tested for leaching contaminants and found to be well within Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. Their superior purity greatly reduces its initial backwashing requirements, prior to commissioning a filter, enabling a rapid start up of media filters.

SUPERIOR DEPTH FILTRATION

Glass Pearls operate on the basis of “depth filtration”; dirt is driven through the filter bed and trapped in minute spaces between the particles of filter media allowing the cleansed water to pass through.

Conventional media such as sand is crushed and sieved; they generally have an irregular structure and a larger variation in particle size. A conventional media filter bed is more porous and unable to trap fine particles.

Glass Pearls are man-made to specific geometrical shapes providing an extremely narrow particle size range of 0.6mm to 0.8mm, enabling the creation of a dense homogeneous filter media bed, capable of filtering particles down to 3 microns. a micron is equivalent to one millionth of a metre.

BULK DENSITY

The chart below demonstrates that Glass Pearls have a higher bulk density than crushed glass and sand.

Glass Pearl media has an effective size between 0.6mm to 0.8mm. This narrow range in particle size and the smooth spherical shape results in a closer compaction of Pearls as a filter bed whereas sand generally has a larger range of particle size 0.6mm to 1.2mm and irregular in shape results in large porosity or air gapes between particles reducing its ability to provide finer filtration. Please note that the required Glass Pearl filter media weights differ, but the media volume is constant.

SAVE WATER

The water saving ability of Glass Pearls are due to their spherical smooth shape, as this result in a low coefficient of friction. After each backwash, Glass Pearls are effectively cleansed of their trapped contaminants. Glass Pearls require up to 20% less backwash water than sand, saving time and water.

Glass Pearls required 215 litres to successfully backwash a Waterco S600 Media Filter, whereas sand required 266 litres.

FEATURES:

  • Superior filtration below 3 microns
  • Up to 20% less water required for backwashing
  • 0.6mm to 0.8mm in size
  • Chemically inert and free from contaminants

SPECIFICATIONS:

The design of glass pearl media is based on the process of depth filtration. As the water is pumped, dirt is trapped in the tiny spaces between the media.
